Izanagi-Jingu Shrine

Izanagi-Jingu Shrine was built to worship the god Izanagi, who alongside the goddess Izanami played a role in the creation of Japan according to Shinto mythology.

The shrine is also well-known for its annual festival celebrating the birth of Japan.

Sumoto Castle

Sumoto Castle was completed in 1536 near the peak of Mount Mikuma at an elevation of 133m. Currently, a reconstructed castle tower rests above the castle ruins.

Nushima kisen (ferry)

Nushima is the legendary island said to be "The Birthplace of Japan" according to the mythology.

Onokoro-Jinja Shrine

Onokoro-Jinja Shrine is the center of local people's faith of the two deities for Japan-birthing. It is quietly standing at the top of the small mountain which is believed to contain the spirit of the deities.
In addition, there is a stone statue of the two deities in the shrine for local people to show their respects in more vivid way. The statue shows the very moment that the two deities created the Onokoro Island.

Kamitategamiiwa Rock

Kamitategamiiwa Rock is one of the legendary Onokorojima Island places appearing in the Kuniumi Story. It is a huge intriguingly shaped rocks similar to a spear.
